Almost six million Euros for a new generation of scientists
The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences – as the only research institution in the Czech Republic – has been awarded the European Union’s prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND grant. Almost six million Euros, i.e. more than 146 million Czech Korunas, will be used to fund 60 two-years’ postdoctoral fellowships.
Replacing natural gas with hydrogen – part will also be played by scientists from the Institute of Physics
Maximize efficiency and minimize costs in the production of hydrogen using solar decomposition of water – this is what a team of scientists led by Zdeněk Hubička from the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is trying to do.
The Science Fair: come and learn more about forces that take the world of physics forward
Institute of Physics would like to invite you for a visit to the Science Fair. It has become a tradition that we are one of the biggest exhibitors among the Institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences and there will not be another fair in the year 2022 where you could meet us on such a big scale. This year, together with ELI and HiLASE centres, we have prepared tens of fantastic exhibits waiting for curious visitors.
We Will be Developing Nanorobots
He likes to play with light, to put it bluntly. Jakub Dostálek, who is the latest acquisition of the Optics Division, focuses on investigating material properties and how they affect light. Or the other way round – how light affects material properties and the ways to control such properties using light. Having worked for over ten years abroad, he is now taking his first steps to return to Czechia.
Ukrainian scientist: teaching physics can be fun, even if you don't speak Czech
Nataliya Kazachková lost both her university office and home. The bombing of Kharkiv turned her life upside down, but the tenacious scientist did not give up. Together with her parents and younger daughter she managed to leave Ukraine, and thanks to the programme of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic “Researchers at Risk Fellowships - Ukraine”, since April she has been working at the Institute of Physics.
The Optics Division were betting on interdisciplinary research and time proved them right – everything has come together to run like a well-oiled machine
“We had the opportunity to invest time into interdisciplinary research, knowing that if everything works according to plan, we‘ll rank among the best. But an overarching element of our research remains to be optics – we’ve never run away from it,” says Alexandr Dejneka, the Optics Division Head, in an interview.
Minister of Education Petr Gazdík visited research facility ELI Beamlines
Minister Gazdík had the opportunity to talk to the representatives of ELI research teams in the laser and experimental halls. The head of the centre, Roman Hvězda, informed minister Gazdík about the history of the construction and the commissioning of unique research technologies and about current activities for research users.
Science Challenge has its winners: they coded, innovated and tamed the laser beam
The first year of the Science Challenge educational competition for teams of gifted high school students took place in the ELI Beamlines and HiLASE laser centres on February 18-19. During the 24-hour scientific marathon, the first place in the challenging competition was awarded to the Nafta - Anime team.
