Summary

The Department of Magnetic Measurements and Materials is engaged in the basic research of novel magnetic materials for various energy efficient and environmentally friendly applications and in developing methods for magnetic materials studies. We focus on the studies of magnetoelastic multiferroics, especially the phenomenon of shape memory at all scales from nano- to bulk, advanced soft magnetic materials, magnetocaloric materials, new permanent-magnet-type compounds and on the superconducting materials.

Different antiphase boundary configurations
Description
Different antiphase boundary configurations (left) and magnetic domains for magnetic easy axis oriented out of plane for differently heat treated material and its response in magnetic field (enhanced coercivity)

World-renowned experts in the above-mentioned fields work in the department. The department's expertise and experimental facilities are very broad owing to the existence of two joint laboratories shared primarily with the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University, which are an integral part of the department. It also participates in the operation of the helium liquefier in Troja.
