Research Programme

The newly established research group Biophotonics at FZU department of Optical and Biophysical Systems, Division of Optics has several PhD and postdoc positions open. It offers an access to newly established modern state-of-the-art research facilities for studies in optical nanobiomaterials and their implementation to novel optical biosensor and spectroscopy tools. New co-workers are granted with creative freedom to explore novel solutions and emerging research directions in environment stimulating their scientific carrier development.

The open research projects are aligned with topics of newly acquired international grants and industry collaborations. They relate to research in novel methods for the ultrasensitive analysis of biomolecules and their interactions and for sensitive and rapid detection of harmful compounds and biomarkers, with the relevance to important fields of diagnosis of diseases, personalized medicine, and environmental monitoring. We search for strengthening our team with members bringing in skills in design and optimizing optical instruments, nanophotonics, biointerface architectures, assay development and biomolecular interaction studies that are preferably combined with experience in optical spectroscopy and microscopy.

Required profile

  • MSc or Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Sciences, Biophysics, or related field.
  • Creativity and analytical thinking
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Previous experience in optical microscopy, spectroscopy and/or bioanalytical techniques and/or scientific instrumentation development

Terms of employment

The initial period of employment is 1 year (with the possibility of an extension), starting in early 2024 or as otherwise agreed.
