Project topic: Development of novel electrode materials based on conductive diamond for electroanalytical applications.

Text

What is it about

Boron-doped diamond (BDD) is an outstanding electrode material promising for several electrochemical applications, such as electroanalytic detection of biomarkers, electrochemical degradation of wastewater pollutants, organic electrosynthesis and others. These options are enabled by the unique combination of properties of conductive BDD electrodes, including high mechanical and chemical robustness, biocompatibility, wide electrochemical window even in aqueous media and low background currents. Doping of diamond by boron is achieved within the process of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis and enables semi-conductivity of this intrinsically insulating material. The current project will be devoted to the advancement/development of conductive diamond electrodes, in particular various nanostructured forms of diamond (e.g., porous), and systematic characterization of its properties and electrochemical characteristics, as well as practical testing of diamond-based electrodes in various electroanalytical applications. The current work will be performed as a part of joint effort between the Department of Functional Materials (Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences) and the The UNESCO Laboratory of Environmental Electrochemistry (Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University)
